Topical application of hydroquinone produces a
reversible de-pigmentation of the skin by inhibiting melanin production. Exposure to
sunlight or ultraviolet light will cause re-pigmentation of lightened areas.
INDICATIONS AND USAGE: Hydroquinone 2% Skin Lightening Gel or Cream,
indicated for the gradual lightening of hyper-pigmented skin conditions such as acne spots,
freckles, age spots, and other unwanted areas of melanin hyper-pigmentation.
Contains sodium metabisulfite, which can cause allergic-type reactions in certain
susceptible people. The overall prevalence of sulfite sensitivity in the general
population is low. Sulfite sensitivity is seen more frequently in asthmatic people.
It is suggested that you test for skin sensitivity before using by applying a small
amount to an unbroken patch of skin; check in 24 hours. Minor redness is not an
indication, but where there is itching or excessive inflammatory response further
treatment is not advised.
PRECAUTIONS:
For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
Sunscreen use is an essential aspect of hydroquinone therapy because even minimal sunlight
can produce melanin activity. It is necessary to use sun protection during skin lightening
therapy. After and during maintenance therapy, sun exposure should be avoided on bleached
skin by application of a sunscreen or sunblock agent or protective clothing to prevent
re-pigmentation.
Nursing Mothers - It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human
milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when
topical hydroquinone is administered to a nursing woman.
Pediatric Use - Safety and effectiveness in children below the age of 12 have not been
established.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Hydroquinone, 2% Skin Lightening Cream should
be applied to affected areas and rubbed in well once or twice daily.
